For occasional acrylic work near an open window, you can get by without one — overspray is mostly dried paint dust at hobby pressures. The booth earns its place the moment you spray regularly, spray indoors in winter, or touch anything solvent-based: it pulls particulates and fumes away from your face and out of your living space.
