FAQ · Paints & Primers

Are speed paints good for beginners?

Yes — arguably the best first paints for tabletop work. One coat over a light primer gives shading and color simultaneously, so a first squad looks genuinely finished instead of flat. Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 and Vallejo Xpress Color are the value picks; Citadel Contrast has the deepest range.

Two habits keep them working: prime light (white, bone, or zenithal gray) because these translucent paints inherit whatever is underneath, and let coats dry fully before stacking. They complement regular acrylics rather than replacing them.
